Chair of the Board steps down
At our last board meeting, Steve Edwards announced his decision to step down as Chair. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Steve for his service as Chair of The Grand Healthy Living Centre, a role he has held for more than 8 years.
Over that time, Steve has provided thoughtful, steady leadership and has played a vital role in shaping our strategic direction.
As a qualified youth work professional, Steve brought a depth of experience and insight that proved invaluable to both the Board and staff team. He has been part of the board since it’s conception, and prior to this worked with two of our youth work leads in previous roles.
His guidance helped steer our work in delivering the public health programme with integrity, safeguarding, and impact at its core, while also strengthening our award-winning youth work offer.
The team extended their best wishes to Steve saying,
‘From the very beginning of our youth work journeys, Steve Edwards has been there — steady, present, and always willing to guide us with wisdom, care, and unwavering integrity. Steve has been a constant source of support throughout our careers, offering not only expertise, but genuine belief in what youth work can and does achieve.
Over 25 years ago, Steve shared advice that has stayed with us ever since: “If you are working to the best interests of the young person, you will always be right.” Those words have guided many a difficult decision throughout the years, when things felt complex or uncertain. That simple truth has shaped the way we work and the way we lead.
We have always known, during some tough times, that Steve is there and always willing to help and make things right. To have had Steve beside us for so long has been a gift to say the least!
Steve is truly our youth work guru — someone whose insight, honesty, and deep understanding of young people has influenced countless moments, big and small. Just as importantly, his belief in us enabled us to grow, to find confidence in our roles, and to provide the very best for young people over so many years.
We are incredibly grateful for the guidance, encouragement, and commitment Steve has given from the start. His impact has been incredible, and his support has meant more than words can properly express. Thank you for everything, Steve.”
His understanding of young people’s needs, combined with a strong commitment to partnership working and good governance, ensured our services remained responsive, inclusive, and community-focused.
Steve led with integrity, generosity, and a genuine passion for improving health and wellbeing locally.
We are deeply grateful for his service and wish him every success as he moves on from the role of chair. Steve will remain part of the board of directors.
Board member David Mead will now take up the role of Chair.
