The youth workers at the Grand worked alongside St John’s Catholic Comprehensive School to engage with 13 – 16 year olds; focussing on students with low attendance or danger of exclusion. The allotment project took place over 10 sessions where we engaged with the students in meaningful activities so that it would increase their attendance at school and improve their attitude towards learning.
The young people met on a weekly basis at the Grand’s allotment in Bellman Avenue to produce and harvest a variety of fruit and vegetables. Increasing the students awareness of food production and environmental challenges. The young people improved a range of skills and knowledge such as working as a team, confidence building and taking control of their production.
