Plaque Unveiling – The Grand
Adam Holloway, MP for Gravesham today unveiled a new plaque at The Grand Healthy Living Centre, in the Gravesend, with visiting guest MPs from Malta.
Providing essential services and support for local people, The Grand provides a spectrum of opportunities including help with job searches, healthy weight classes, One You Kent lifestyle services, a wide range of youth services and silver surfer’s classes – teaching older people how to use computers and the internet.
The new plaque marks the ongoing support provided by the Kuflink Foundation, who have supported The Grand for many years.
Min Binning from Kuflink Foundation said, “We are extremely proud to work with team at The Grand, we have seen first-hand the difference they have made to the lives of local people and the importance of partnership working in the borough. We strongly believe in the importance of supporting education, health and sport.”
The Grand, which is based in the former courthouse in Gravesend town centre, next to the Goose pub, has seen a transformation in the past 5 years, putting back into use much of the TARDIS-like building.
Min Binning went on to say, “The building is being used by more and more projects and local agencies – who each provide life-enhancing opportunities, often for free.
Kent Community Health Care offering advice, the RBLI delivering employment advice, Porchlight who provide homelessness support and the Citizens Advice are all regularly in the building. I would say to anyone who hasn’t visited to pop in find out what’s on offer.”
A café, meeting rooms, communal space and IT room all feature in the building, as well as the original courtroom now being home to everything from yoga sessions to open mic afternoons for young people.
The Grand’s core opening hours are from 9.30am until 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9.30am until 4.30pm on Fridays.
